What Are the 3 Best Electric Acoustic Guitars, sound Wise Not by Price?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: What Are the 3 Best Electric Acoustic Guitars, sound Wise Not by Price?
Answer: Alvarez has great prices and great sound. I’d recommend one. Their Yari is a great sounding guitar but it’s got a pretty big price tag. I’ve owed Takamanie before, it was OK, but not great, so I sold it to a friend, he however, loves it. I bought my wife an Alvera last Christmas. I own an Aria, which is a really great solid top acoustic, has a really warm tone. Fender and Gibson also makes great acoustic/electric guitars as well.
If you’re going for an electric, I’d suggest a Gibson ES 335. I’m in love with mine. It’s the most perfect guitar. So versatile, so pretty, it’s a work of art.

My advice, don’t buy anything without actually playing it first. Go to a music store and test drive a few first, if you find one you like, buy it. Don’t order from a catalog, you really need to test the guitar you’re going to buy. If you’re going for an acoustic/electric, invest in a good acoustic amp. I use that live, but for recordings, nothing is better than micing a good solid top acoustic without all the electronics and junk.

If you’ve got a decent effects processor, any one will do.

Ovation makes an excellent elec-acoustic, and not really high dollar.

Yamaha also, but a little more expensive

Ibanez is also a good one, but they range in price from inexpensive to rediculously priced (for an Ibanez)

Everyone talks about a Tackermine, as in plays like a Tackermine. I wouldn’t know myself never having heard one.

I have got a Yamaha APX-5A and an APX5NA (nylon strung) and both sound wonderful.

Seriously now, an electric and an acoustic are 2 different instruments. NO electroacoustic sounds particularly good, not even in a bedroom studio.

A well miked acoustic will always win -hands down. Electroacoustics are always compromises, so if you are going this way don’t spend too much on it. Anything with YAMAHA written on it will be good value for money.
