Electro-acoustic Guitars?????

A tough acoustic guitar question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I would like to know—- what is a built in pick up?
—- Do you need an amp?

I’m thinking of getting one for my b-day. Thanks
:)

Answer: Another term for an electro-acoustic is semi-acoustic guitar.

A semi acoustic guitar includes a sound box and one or more pickups.

Semi-acoustic instruments divide into two types:

In some, the sound box is adequate for performance in its own right, and use of a pickup is optional as an alternative to using a microphone. Some manufacturers refer to these as acoustic electric rather than semi-acoustic instruments, but the terminology varies.

More often, the instrument is designed primarily to be used with an amplifier, and the sound box is used primarily to produce an amplified tone not obtainable with a solid body instrument.

A pickup device acts as a transducer that captures mechanical vibrations (usually from suitably equipped stringed instruments such as the electric guitar, electric bass guitar or electric violin) and converts them to an electronic signal which can be amplified and recorded.

I Would Like Some Information on an Eko 100 Acoustic Guitar 1963,?

A acoustic guitar question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: The eko model 100 accoustic guitar, 1963 i would like to find out some more information on it, it is a six string, with f shape cut outs on the front.
Answer: It’s an Italian built guitar which were originally budget models for beginner guitarists. They’re mostly made of plywood but there is a real buzz for them at the moment and if you own one in good condition you’re on to a bit of a gold mine. If they play well they can sound fantastic and a friend who has an EKO 12 String swears by it. I’m not over sure I’ve seen one of these models, most were shaped like dreadnoughts so you might have something a little rare and therefore more collectable there. There was a fire in the original factory at some point and guitars built before that fire are the best to get hold of. Unfortunately I can’t recall the date of the fire at the moment, but you might be in luck with 1963. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

What's a Reasonable Value of a Takamine F307S Acoustic Guitar in Good Condition About 20 Years Old?

A acoustic guitar question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: What's a Reasonable Value of a Takamine F307S Acoustic Guitar in Good Condition About 20 Years Old?
Answer: Having looked across the web I’ve seen it referred to as a "Pre-Law Suit Martin Copy". I’m assuming it is very similar to a particular Martin Guitar Model. This gives it a bit of kudos, and therefore a bit of rarity value. I’d say keep it, get back into playing it and fight the urge to get rid, especially as it’s been with you for 20 years. I’ll never sell my first guitar, I don’t care if it becomes one of a kind and is worth millions, it’s my first guitar!

At pure guess I’d estimate £350 – £500 if it includes an original hard case.

What Songs Are Best Played on a Acoustic Guitar?

What’s this week’s acoustic guitar question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: What Songs Are Best Played on a Acoustic Guitar?
Answer: Anything that incorporates ‘Finger style’ technique is usually best played on acoustics but they can transfer to electrics on clean settings. A lot of music composed in the ‘Folk/classical tradition’ lends itself well to the acoustic too. The key word is be authentic to the range of the instrument in deciding what to play. Transferring a ‘Van Halen’ song designed for supersonic guitar fretwork of an electric may not ‘cross over’ too well without some heavy adapting. Saying that, it is interesting to try and tab a song composed for synths or similar (eg Kraftwork) as playing it on your acoustic can give it a new sense of expression. Go to your nearest music shop and check out books with titles like ‘Best acoustic guitar songs ever’ and they will have many songs like ‘Wonderwall’ Oasis..’You do something to me’ Paul Weller or Bob Dylan etc.designed for the acoustic player.

What Are the 3 Best Electric Acoustic Guitars, sound Wise Not by Price?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: What Are the 3 Best Electric Acoustic Guitars, sound Wise Not by Price?
Answer: Alvarez has great prices and great sound. I’d recommend one. Their Yari is a great sounding guitar but it’s got a pretty big price tag. I’ve owed Takamanie before, it was OK, but not great, so I sold it to a friend, he however, loves it. I bought my wife an Alvera last Christmas. I own an Aria, which is a really great solid top acoustic, has a really warm tone. Fender and Gibson also makes great acoustic/electric guitars as well.
If you’re going for an electric, I’d suggest a Gibson ES 335. I’m in love with mine. It’s the most perfect guitar. So versatile, so pretty, it’s a work of art.

My advice, don’t buy anything without actually playing it first. Go to a music store and test drive a few first, if you find one you like, buy it. Don’t order from a catalog, you really need to test the guitar you’re going to buy. If you’re going for an acoustic/electric, invest in a good acoustic amp. I use that live, but for recordings, nothing is better than micing a good solid top acoustic without all the electronics and junk.

How Do I Stop Acoustic Guitar Lift-off String Sound?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: Hi. I’m a new but aspiring acoustic guitar player. I have a pretty good guitar (Yamaha FG 730S, my first!), but also a bit of a problem… Simply put, if I press down on a string, as soon as I lift my finger from the fretboard the string makes a loud noise – as loud as if I had struck the open string. Surely this isn’t normal? I can’t seem to reduce the noise even if I carefully lift off the string, and it’s worse if I do it quickly. Can any of the guitar pro’s out there give me any tips? Thanks!
Answer: You are not taking your finger off the string properly, you are actually performing a pull off.
Practise just putting your fingers on and off the frets without strumming or picking any strings.
