What Song Should I Learn for My Next Guitar Lesson?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: I need to pick another song to learn. I have lessons, but I always have a fun song. I’ve already done:
No Rain
Seven Nation Army
Free Fallin
Run Around
Breakeven
Wish You Were Here

This is basically what I like. I’m a 13 y.o. girl but I don’t exactly like pop music. I’ve only been taking lessons for a year on an acoustic guitar, so nothing too hard please. Thank you! (10 points I have until Wednesday!)

Answer: Wonderwall – Oasis

VERY easy song to play and learn, and a fun one, too. I think it probably goes with the style of songs you’ve already posted.

Also, if you want to learn more Tom Petty, "Last Dance With Mary Jane" isn’t that hard. The only part that might be tricky for a beginner is the hammer on for the A Minor chord, but all of the chords in the song are open.

Good Piano and Guitar Books to Take to Lessons? (:?

Cannot Afford Guitar Lessons..but Want to Learn.?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: Hi, I own a guitar and I really want to learn how to play. Lessons are very expensive, going as much as $22 for a half and hour, and I cannot afford that right now. I am a teenager, and do not have the funds to pay for it. What should I do?
Answer: Very good free lessons in the link below. Youtube is fine for an intermediate player, but as a beginner you may find youtube frustrating since you’re just randomly jumping around from one lesson to the next. These lessons are not in a series and do not build on one another so they are not nearly as useful as a real lesson plan you can follow step by step. Once you can play a little better then you can go to youtube to learn a specific technique or a specific song. Stick to an organized lesson plan in the beginning.

Learning to play the guitar should be easy and fun. One of the best ways to learn today is with online lessons. You really can learn how to play the guitar in just 15 minutes a day.

You probably could spend hours and hours of time online searching for "free" guitar lessons. On the other hand, you might just as well check out websites that offer lessons at very reasonable rates (compared to private lessons).

Im Giving Guitar Lessons Today ?

We’ve had a reader question come in on the subject of guitar lessons. Let’s take a look:

Question: I think I’d start out with teaching my friend a G, C, and maybe a D. I don’t wanna go overboard with the chords, though. I plan on showing her 2 or 3 basic chords , names of strings, and how frets work.
Anything else I should show her? Oh yeah, tune a guitar.
Answer: Tuning is a major thing haha. Ummm, teach her what each string is (EADGBE). And briefly show various notes on the bottom E and A strings so she can kind of guess where barre chords are. Dont expect to show her harmonics for a while or hammer ons/pull offs just yet. Teach her the PROPER way of holding a pick and playing. Trust me, bad habits form early.

Where to Find Bass Guitar Lessons?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: I’m determined to learn how to play this instrument, but first I need lessons, I would prefer it free, but I would pay if it would help me out more.
Answer: Just look around your area for music shops and ask if they offer lessons. If you can’t find any, just try and search around the internet and find sites (or even YouTube) to help you learn.

P.S. Breaking Benjamin ROCKS.

Should I Keep Taking Guitar Lessons?

Another guitar lessons question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: ive been learning (electric) guitar and taking formal lessons for a year and a half. ive learned and improved a lot and im beginning to feel that maybe i can just teach myself from here on out (since i know the basic theory and technique). its just its getting kind o expensive.
Answer: Music lessons teach you basically only the foundation at the start, whereas as you progress further into the lesson, it is more on learning new techniques and tactics. If you’re not intending to major in it or do a performance, just playing and learning it for fun, I suggest you stop the lessons, especially if it’s expensive.
