Learning Electric Guitar?

Keep the electric guitar questions coming! I liked this one:
Question: I really want to learn to play elecric guitar so I went out and bought one of those starter packs for about £200 and I have no idea where to start some people say learn the basic chords others tell me to pick a band I adore get their tabs and just keep playing them till I know them off by heart.
Answer: start with chords to get a feel for the guitar..then do some scales to build up speed and finger strength. then start learning some songs,after that make your own stuff up.
I think that u should pay for lessons otherwise you’ll give up trying to teach yourself
it is easier to learn your basic chords first, then progress from there. once you know exactly "how" to play the guitar, then you can play other songs a lot easier, maybe even write your own songs as well.
take a few lessons on how to actually play the notes, then get inspired by learning a few songs you love.
you will naturally take off from there. Listen to guitar based music, and try the blues, as it is fairly simple to learn and has a lot of feeling. dont find the music in you, let the music in you find its way out.

hi i have just bought an electric guitar as well today and i don’t know a single thing about them i just decided that i would like to learn to play one when you work out how to play it let me know please (vice versa)i think that’s what they say meaning i will let you know when i learn it as well
I would suggest learning the note each string plays "EADGBE" with the sentence "Eat All Day Get Big Easy." From their learn about the frets and how they change the sound quality of each string. Practice pushing the frets down to get a pure sound and not a "dead" sound. From there, learn the chords G, C, D and Em. With those three chords you can play almost any song ever written. You can find more on any of these things online. Search for a fingering chart to show you all the chords and how to play them.
I’ve been playing the guitar some time now and still feel I am missing something. I used to think it was my inability to read music effectly, or was it because I was only playing parts of songs: "Stairway to Heaven – Led Zep"
Then I stubled upon a fantastic website Desi Serna, and downloaded fretboard theory for $20 (£15). As the title suggests the course is about viewing the fretboard as a pattern of notes, more importantly it teaches you the porper basics of guitar playing, such as the Pentatonic Scales and how to apply them to songs.

I tought myself how to play about 3 years ago just by looking up some easy guitar tabs and gradually increase the difficulty by playing harder songs. Or you can try and make up your own stuff. Whichever works for you. Or if you want, you can take lessons and they will teach you scales and all that stuff. But whatever you want to do. Good luck!
i’m just starting to learn the electric guitar too, i’m teaching myself some basic chords first, i think its better if you teach yourself as you will feel as if you have achieved more.
well mate i started playing about 3 years ago and im pretty good now, nearly got a record deal wi my band, i started cause my mate had got a guitar pack like yours (guitar, amp etc?) and a bunch of books about the guitar and how to play and stuff, anyway i knicked 1 of them and took it home and started learnin everything in that usin my dads old fender strat (i only took a couple weeks, maybe a month but it may be longer for you, work at your own pace no matter if some1 says your crap) after that i started gettin tabs off the internet and buyin tab books( the internet is good but sometimes the tabs can be wrong or just crap, also theres a big thing goin on just now and all the good 1’s are shuttin down cause they’re gettin threats and stuff from people sayin publishin tabs on the internet is illegal) theres a really good program on the net called guitar pro thats really good and u can get a free trial on their site just search for guitar pro, also when your confident enough go and find a place like a pub or somethin where u can just jam wi guys, it don matter if it aint your style cause more often than not it’ll be blues or folk music but learnin different styles can only be good for your playin, ive nearly got a record deal after only 3 years of playin and thats what ive done so this is all good advice, good luck and keep strummin!!!
