Guitar? Chords? Piano? Lessons?
Posted in guitar lessons on 25. Sep, 2010
This week’s question is as follows:
Question: I have been playing piano over five or so years now and I am doing really well, I want to keep playing piano but I also want to start playing some guitar. Would it be easy to teach myself the chords for guitar if I am really good at sight-reading notes on piano? I just want to learn chords for now. We don’t have enough money for piano and guitar lessons, how hard would it be to teach myself? Also, what is a good guitar to buy for a beginner? (Under $175 would be nice) It doesn’t have to be great, but good. Thanks!
Answer: There are lots of good free resources online for guitar instruction. Here is a link that will help you with some chords –

Your piano experience should really help you with the ‘musical’ part of guitar playing. Good luck!!
Well I started out on guitar and then taught myself piano later on, and it wasn’t too hard. Idk how it would be the other way around though. :\ As for buying a guitar, I’d say go to a smaller music shop, where you can negotiate the price. ^_^ Good luck!!
Hey Danielle how are you?
Guitar and piano is different in many ways, even if you’ve been playing piano for a long time the chord voicings and all are really different. And also you have to get technique.
If you want send me a message and I can help you with all that in guitar.
Take care
