Who is the Greatest Ever Bass Guitar Player?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:
Question: Who is the Greatest Ever Bass Guitar Player?
Answer: I believe it is a Mr Jack Bruce who played in the supergroup Cream as well as the supergroup BBM as well as with most musicians who are regarded as "great" in their own field. He was originally offered the bassist job in Led Zeppelin which he turned down. Possibly the second best bassist John Paul Jones took the job!
Billy Sheehan
John Entwistle – The Who
Bernard Edwards – Chic
Jaco Pastorius
Mark King – Level 42
There’s no such thing as "greatest ever",no one can know everything there is to know about playing a musical instrument.
I agree with sunkissed… Jaco
Mayb Flea from the chilis ir Billy Sheehan
phil lesh is just about the best i have seen live.
My mate Dave awesome
Flea – by far! Did you know the guy puts Super Glue in a hole in his thumb to make his thumb harder for slapping the strings!!
Jaco Pastorius.
I agree with the guy who said there’s no such thing as the greatest ever, but as a bass player I take my inspiration from a wide range of players. I’d say my top 5 are:
John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia)
Doug Ferguson (Camel)
Randy Meisner (Original line up of the Eagles)
Flea (RHCP)
Mike Rutherford (Genesis up until 1977 – he really should have stayed on bass!)
Geddy Lee of Rush
Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath
and I agree with Flea
Evan Scott … the bassist in my novel, LOL!
Seriously, wouldn’t it depend on what style a person most enjoys? I could give a name from one of my fave bands because I like the sound, but others may not appreciate it. I don’t think there is a "greatest ever" in any art form. It’s such a matter of personal taste.
flabba holt of the roots radics, or robbie shakespear from sly & robbie or bob marleys bass man aston ” familyman” barrett, best bass palyers are reggae
No doubt that it is Geddy Lee of Rush. His style of playing is so unique and melodic. Unlike many other bands, his bass often matches or surpasses the importance of guitar in Rush songs. On top of that, in a video, i have seen him sing, play bass, and play keyboards at the same time. Now that is talent!
Mikey Way from MCR and Mike Dirnt from GD
You cant be serious…. Jack Bruce? Flea? Jaco, yeah maybe.
Can’t believe I’m the only one to speak up for the guy who INVENTED slap and pop, Mr. Stanley Clarke. He also plays concert Bass, picolo bass, and any other kind of bass that’s ever been around.
Not sure, but Mike Dirnt rocks :>
