I've also learned electric guitar when i'm 19,it's been a year now and i can play some songs pretty good.i've play a bit of blues,metal and rock. just learn the BASIC,scales and put a lot of practice,you'll be good i'm sure.but of course it takes time to progress so you need to be patience. plus,you can watch lots of video tutorials on youtube.they pretty help. No problem actually.
