I Am Trying to Learn How to Play the Guitar……?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: And my first song is Tailor Made by Colbie Caillat
Is this a good song to start off with?
And I am open to other suggestions if you have them! Thanks!
Answer: That seems like a good choice. You could also learn the Super Mario Bros music:

Or I also know of an easy version of Fur Elise by Beethoven:

Both of those are for beginners.

As for what song, play what YOU like, it will keep you interested and keep you practising.

Having a learning plan is absolutely necessary if you want your learning time to be effective and efficient. Without it you will find yourself wading through piles and piles of information, both good and bad, wasting hours and hours of valuable learning time.

Here a some of the top mistakes people make
    1. Giving up too soon-It will take time, be patient
    2. Making it too hard for yourself-You need to get the right kind of help, be it private lessons or a DVD
    3. Looking at your hands too much-Eventually you are need to play by feel, start now
    4. Not using all your senses-seeing and hearing, like with a DVD will engage your brain more
    5. Not having fun-You should enjoy playing

It really pays to get lessons. It will save you time and you will get less frustrated.

Here are a couple of resources to help you learn:

It seems like a little bit of a difficult song to start off with, but if you don’t mind thats great. Only concern would be that it seems like quite a difficult song to learn to play and sing along to?

I’d personally recommend Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance) by Green Day:http://guitarandlyrics.webs.com/goodriddance.htm

because its so very easy to sing along and play to. Or maybe something like Wonderwall by Oasis
    http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/o/oasis/wonderwall_ver2_crd.htm

where the meter (timing) of the singing is pretty much identical to the music?

That said, if you’re comfortable with your song, go for it, and if you can pull it off you’ll be well on your way!
