Should I Learn to Play the Guitar or the Violin?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: I don’t know how to play any instruments and I don’t know how to read scores. I haven’t been learning to play them when I was young but now I want to. I wanted to learn to play the guitar becuase it creates a nice sound and you coul play lots of songs you wanted to with the guitar. But then I saw the violin in a anime cartoon (hehe) and I really liked it, they sounds were really beautiful and I remember my parents saying to me when I was young that i should learn to play the violin cause its the most emotional instrument in all. And I love the way people look when they hold up the violin…

Now I can’t decide on which instrument to learn…
So… I wanted some advice.

1. Which one to learn: Guitar or Violin
2. Which one is harder to learn and why.

THankyou :)

Answer: Violin is extremely hard. Guitar is pretty easy, I guess. I learned some of it but quit because I was too busy to keep taking lessons. A lot of people teach themselves guitar, and way more people play guitar than violin because its so much easier.

I think you should learn guitar.

Pros to guitar:
-More people play it, so if you went to someone’s house, they more likely have a guitar that you could play. Or at a party or something.
-You can sing while you play guitar. I’m pretty sure you can’t do that with violin. If you do your vibrations would probably mess up the sound of the violin. Probably not that badly though. Singing with a violin is kinda weird though.
-Its easier.
-You can find cheap guitars because a lot of people have them and they’re always someone looking to give theirs away.

Pros to Violin:
-Its smaller and easier to carry than the guitar.
-Its more unique.
-Since not as many people play it, there are probably more jobs looking for good violin players.
-People are more impressed with violins than guitars. Because it’s much harder and more unique.

Hope that helps! :)

    1. No one can answer that for you, you need to try both and see what you like more.
    2. Violin is harder to learn. Guitar is harder to master. Violin is harder to learn because in guitar u just pluck the strings while violinists use bows and plucking. Guitar however, when you begin to explore it more, you will find techniques that hard to learn.

hi i have played both Guitar and Violin, and the violin is harder to learn because you have to hold it in a way which is uncomfortable but the guitar is some what easy to play and you are more comfortable when playing. i hoped i help.

the violin is so beautiful, I think it is harder for most people but it depends on you and your talents, It was easier for me than guitar, they require quite different skills. If I could choose which talent to have, I would rather play an electric violin in some eccentric band than most any other instrument.

I play the guitar. But, I really want to learn the violin now. They are both awesome instruments. Choosing will kind of depend on your musical tastes. Does the music you listen to have more guitars or violins? You’ll probably want to play the stuff you listen to.

Guitars are awesome for playing by yourself. And if you bring one to a party or jam session, someone will usually recognize the song your playing (most people I know listen to guitar music). It is also a very popular instrument. So people have developed many different styles with it like tapping(search air tap in youtube), classical, or just good ol’ rock and blues. It’s very handy if you are planning to sing too.

Violins are freakin’ sweet. Hands down. If you can learn to jam good with it you’ll be a hit around the campfire. I listen to Irish folk, that’s why I want to learn how to play one. With a violin you could go play orchestra, witch would be sweet. And your parents are right, it is a very emotional instrument. It is also a lot smaller and easier to carry. I have been looking around some pawn shops for one >.<

My advice is to learn the one you think you’ll play the most and have fun with. You can learn the other one after you have mastered the first.

Also, after you are out of the beginners stage learn to freaking improve! It’s annoying when you jam with someone who can only play songs written by other people, which isn’t bad but making up your own stuff is much better =]

    Good Luck!

Personally, I hate the way guitar sounds. Well the way amateur guitarists play.
    I say violin.
    Both are hard to master.
    Both read the same clef.
Both can sound really bad or really beautiful depending on the amount of effort put into learning/mastering.

    But I’m biased toward violin.
