If you want to play classical, buy a nylon string classical guiter. The Lucero at Guitar Center isn’t a bad choice for a beginner guitar.

If you want to play anything else, don’t buy a classical guitar, get a decent steel string acoustic. Takamine Jasmine is a nice choice under $100. Yamaha also makes good guitars for a low cost (both classical and steel string). A couple other decent options are Walden and Hohner.

If you’re just starting out you really don’t need a $500 guitar. If you can afford a bit more than $100 you could go up into the $200 range and get a solid wood top guitar like the Yamaha FG700S. That’s a good guitar for the money and the solid spruce top will sound better than the cheaper laminate ones.

The big thing with beginner guitars is not to get one that’s so hard to play that you get frustrated. You need to try them out and find one that the strings are not too hard to press down but that doesn’t buzz when you play it.
