Answer: Hello Ariah Jade, and welcome to the wonderful world of guitar playing!

Learning to play the guitar should be easy and fun. One of the best ways to learn today is with online lessons. You really can learn how to play the guitar in just 15 minutes a day.

You probably could spend hours and hours of time online searching for "free" guitar lessons. On the other hand, you might just as well check out websites that offer lessons at very reasonable rates (compared to private lessons).

Learning How to Play the Guitar…Help?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: And I was wondering, what will I need to buy?
Obviously I’ll need to buy a classic/acoustic guitar, but what else would you recommend?
A pick?
Tuner?
How long does it take to get the basics down? Like, how long before I can play knowing where the notes are?
I can somewhat already read music if that helps…
Anything else?

Many thanks in advance, ow and if I have asked anything stupid my bad, I am new to this.

P.S. I am a 18 y/o girl if that effects anything.

Answer: I am also new with the guitar, but i know a good amount so ima help u as best i can. A pick is ur choice, some people like useing one and others are more into useing there fingers. If you are looking to play something electric then i would use a pick. But you can get a pick and try it out. They will let u do that at a guitar shop. With a tuner, unless you know how to use one it’s kinda pointless to get it. Sometimes they will also tune it for u there at the shop, watch them and ask questions on how to use it. Starting off playing a tuner isen’t a NEED thing. Once you get better and better i would get one. With how long it takes, well that depends on how long u practice. I got a CD for starting off and it helped me alot. A couple times aday you will soon inprove i garente. Because you can already read a lil of music that will make learning for u faster. Good luck and let me know if u need anymore help.
P.S Age isn’t important lol
Hope i helped u enough :)

Learning a Song on Guitar?

I just love answering these learn guitar questions. Here’s another:

Question: Hey, so I’ve been teaching myself the acoustic guitar for around two months now. I’ve been doing pretty good but I’ve not been practicing enough at all! I know alot of chords, but I’m not fast real fast at changing from one chord to another yet. Do you think instead of learing a song this week that I should just practice alot on my chord changes? Also is it essential for me to learn scales? If so which ones?
And last question do you think that if I start next week and practice learning a song everyyday for like 3/4 hours that I will be able to play it properly within five weeks?

Thanks for your help1 (:

Answer: 1. dont start off practicing 3-4 hours. It will bore you. and plus what are you going to play for 3-4 hours anyways? itll do more harm than good. Practice 1-2 hours until like month six
2. Try and learn songs with tabs instead of only chords. it will help your transitioning.
3. you should try to learn 2 songs a week. a song should usually only take 3 days to learn. well at least for me to fully play it without mistakes.
4. good luck ^__^ dont give up, it will get tough and boring at times. Type in scales at

How Can I Learn Guitar?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Acoutstic guitar. I’m completley clueless, but I’m very intrueged in learning it. My brother attemped to learn it so we have an Acoustic guitar in our back shed… Help please? I have NO idea what-so-ever.
Answer: I agree with Bolide,

I was horrified to find out that there’s an accoustic guitar sitting in your shed. Poor girl, neglected and exposed to the elements. First things first. Have it checked out by a pro – just take it to your local guitar shop and let them examine her. They’ll let you know. IF that neck is at all warped – you’ll want to toss her and get a new one before trying to learn. Otherwise, you’ll have issues way down the road if you like playing it.

Plenty of cheap instruction methods on the market out there. Hal Leonard and Mel Bay are just 2 of them. Mel Bay can get cheesy – but it will get you started. I’m using the Hal Leonard for a banjo method – I personally love it – tho i’ve never used it to learn guitar

However, nothing compares to getting one on one lessons from a teacher!!!!!!

Best Things to Learn on Acoustic Guitar?

What a great learn guitar question:

Question: hi,
getting an acoustic guitar soon and want some fun and nice sounding songs to learn,
so any recommendations will be appreciated.
Links to useful websites with chords etc will be mucho appriacto’d too.

also any good tips for a nooby to acoustic guitar,
I have played other musical instruments so i can read music, but not any string instruments.

Answer: Ultimate-guitar.com is the best website I’ve come across, you can search for the songs you want to play, and It’s free!
Try anything by plain white tees, oasis, the Beatles or the moldy peaches to get you started.
Guitar players often use tab which is a bit different to music- its a diagram of the 6 strings and shows you which fret to play when so its really easy. Good luck!

Should I Take Guitar Lessons First?

A guitar lessons question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: I bought acoustic guitar before two weeks n so far the only things i know are 3 chords, how to hold guitar pick,n how to read tabs. I tried to find some videos on youtube but nothing,i cant learn by looking at other people in the video. Many people told me i should do it by myself, but many other people told me i should definitely take classes as soon as possible. I need some good advices n help =) Thank so much
Answer: I would say that if you have the money you should get the lessons. Having a learned instructor will help you to play alot more than trying to learn by yourself. One tip though is get a teacher for what you want to learn. I play alot of rock and when I first got guitar lessons the teacher was all into classical guitar and that didnt help me with what I wanted to learn. So make sure to get the lessons you want if you do go with lessons.
