I'm Super Nervous About My First Guitar Lesson , What's to Expect ?!?

A tough guitar lessons question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I’m starting the guitar and my first lesson is tomorrow to start me off and see how I do and see whether I like it.. My teacher is a really fit 15 year old so I don’t want to make a complete fool out of myself and screw up. Is there any advice I can be given before going in and what is to be expected ?
Answer: Just be relaxed. If it is a group lesson you have nothing to worry about at all. If it’s alone, well just remember that your teacher expects you to know nothing. My group lesson goes super slow so I’m going to guess one on one lessons start of slow. If you want to impress your teacher I would say learn some basic chords and notes in the first position on maybe like the first 2 or 3 strings. Make sure to ask about anything you don’t get and again, just relax. Guitar is supposed to be fun, enjoy it. :)

Should I Learns Guitar Chords First Be for Doing Anything Else?

What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Ok so I had my first guitar lessons this week and for some reason my teacher wants me to learn stairway to heaven(which is hard). When we met he asked my if i could play anything, so i played a couple of riffs i learned on my own, and now he wants me to learn stairway to heaven, while my friend has another teacher and hes learning the basics like minor and major chords and all that, while im stuck on an impossible song. So should i tell my guitar teacher that i want to learn the chords first and then try to learn easier song, or rush like a maniac trying to learn stairway to heaven.
Answer: Truth is, there are some really crappy teachers out there, I’ve had some of them myself. It’s your money, if he is not teaching you the way you feel comfortable with then quit and find another teacher. I can’t even imagine giving a new student something like that.

FIRST GUITAR LESSON Tomorrow… Any Tips, Advice, Etc? Anything?

Another guitar lessons question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I’m so excited. Fourth instrument that I’m learning. Yay!

Anyway, any tips before I go?
Another thing, I broke my list almost a year ago and it hurts all the time. Will this effect the playing at all? I’m right-handed and it’s my left wrist…
WRIST not LIST!!!!!

Answer: Be prepared for your fingers to hurt like hell. But don’t worry, after you play for a whole you’ll develop calluses and it won’t hurt anymore.
When you are holding down the strings on chords, be sure to push them down hard, or you will get a sound that’s…twangy? I’m not sure how to explain it, but you’ll learn.
Make sure you are holding your guitar pick properly so you don’t make a fool of yourself. It is supposed to be held between your middle finger and thumb, though some people hold it between their pointer and thumb.
Just relax and don’t be stiff, and don’t be nervous.
Have fun! I’m sure you will love it.

What Do You Think of This Guitar Lesson on Youtube?

Guitar Lesson????????

Another guitar lessons question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I have my first guitar lesson soon and I’m nervous!!! The teacher will come to me instead of me going to him. I’m so nervous! Help?
Answer: Relax, it’s okay! It’s normal to be nervous – you don’t know what to expect from the person, don’t know what you’ll learn, if it’s all too much learning at once, if you’re going to get along … It’s not out of the ordinary.

But trust me, a lot of the guitar teachers I’ve had have been laid back, understanding, and they know what pace to go at when you’re learning. You’ll get along with them fine :)

What you need to do is just take a few deep breaths and remember why you’re taking up guitar. Remember that this is something you really want to do, remember that you are looking forward to learning how to play an instrument!

Honestly, you’ll be fine, your nerves are normal but they’ll go away after the first few weeks :)

Good luck with your lessons, I really hope you enjoy the guitar

Site For Guitar Lessons?

A guitar lessons question that should definitely interest you all this week

Question: I jus purchased my first guitar, but i dont have time for guitar class../

so please suggest me some sites from where i can easily download guitar tutorial/lesson videos easily..

please guys help me out on this.suggest me some sites from where i can easily download those videos..

:) :D

Answer: You have free options and paid ones. The best free site is http://justinguitar.com
The challenge/problem with these free options (even though there are heaps of great information available) is that you will lack a suitable structure, from A, to B, to C – designed to take you from the level where you’re at today.

The worst thing you can possibly do is to go to youtube and just start to wander through everything and anyhthing. That is indeed an option when you have reached a certain level and you can pick the stuff that A. you know is of good standard, and B. which suites your current needs as well as wants.

At least with Justin, you can be 100% sure his quality is top notch.

The paid courses (which are a lot cheaper than you might think) tend to be the perfect step between the free unfocused, and the highly focused – yet somewhat expensive – private classes or tuitions. Make no mistake about it, the latter is the way to go if you want to become proficient as fast as possible.

The best course in my opinion is Guitar Superstars: http://learnelectricguitarnow.net/guitar-superstars

What Are Some Fun, EASY Songs to Learn on the Guitar?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: I am 14, and I just had my first guitar lesson Last Friday, so far, I can play smoke on the water perfect, and the inspector gadget theme song (… my teacher asked me to learn them so I would learn the basics.) I practise about 4 times a day, just playing around and I’m getting bored of playing the SAME thing over and over … are there any other fun songs like these I would be able to learn?g Nothing too hard… I’d like something fun to learn. Or maybe a site that would have the TAB so I could see it? I am hoping to play mostly rock music… but anything would be great :)

Thank you in advance :)

Answer: There’s a lot of punk songs are easy which use mostly 5th chords like smoke on the water and there’s a lot of other easy songs too. Go to www.ultimate-guitar.com for tabs.

Sheena is A Punk Rocker – The Ramones (try any Ramones song)
Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles
Sunshine of your Love – Cream
You Really Got Me – The Kinks
All These Things I’ve Done – The Killers
Play With Fire – The Rolling Stones
Hard to Explain – The Strokes
Paranoid – Black Sabbath
Seven Nation Army – White Stripes
More Than A Feeling – Boston
Death Or Glory – The Clash
Highway to Hell – AC/DC
Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here
Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah
Karma Police – Radiohead
Pieces of What – MGMT
The Kooks – Love it All

Here’s my advice to you as a beginner. Find any simple melody you hear that you really like and learn how to play it by ear. Just explore the songs you like and if you learn how to play them it will be so gratifying. So just try and play the music that you love and it will be much easier to learn. That’s how I did it and I know that if the passion is there anyone can. Learning by a combination of your ear and tabs will make you a much better player. Plus its more fun trust me so good luck and just don’t give up!

What Guitar Should I Buy when I'm Trying Learn? I Want to Play Songs by The Fray?

A tough learn guitar question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I want to learn how to play the guitar and I have no idea what I should look for. I want to be able to play songs by The Fray, Owl City, Jason Mraz, and Colbie Caillat. I’d appreciate any tips and pointers for buying your first guitar!
Also, what about tuning the guitar? What are some easy tips for that?
Answer: it doesn’t matter what kind of guitar you get, as long as its a 6-string, full scale guitar it’ll play ANY song. the only exception to that is the fact that electric guitars for the most parts have extra "frets" at the bottom of the neck providing for even higher notes, but only experienced people should be venturing there anyways. so it doesn’t matter who’s songs you want to play, all guitars (full scale) are designed the same.

if you’re looking for sound, decide now if you want an electric or an acoustic. Acoustic guitars are like bikes with training wheels and i strongly recommended for beginners; they’re light, easier to handle, and you can take them anywhere and play, no plug-ins required. but if you don’t care about that and want an electric, and you’re saying to yourself its a lot of money your spending and aren’t looking to spend again on another guitar just cause that one’s electric, then start off with an electric.

after that, it’s all preference and personal choice: Quality of the sound versus how much money you willing to shell out. but again i strongly recommend an acoustic and then work your way to electric. and last but not least: take care of it like it’s your only child!

EDIT::: For tuning your guitar buy a cheap tuning device that has a microphone in it to pick up sound acoustically and doesn’t require (but has the option) to have a guitar plugged into it in order to tune it. if you want to tune it by ear check youtube instructional videos. its easier than me describing it and writing a long paragraph u wont wanna read.

Pointer for picking your guitar: ALWAYS try it out first, play scales on different guitars and see which one is comfortable for your fingers and your posture.

check to see if the strings are spaced wide enough for your fingers, or if the strings are not close enough together? picking a guitar is like trying on a glove, always pick the right size for yourself.
