Question: With 7 hours a week means I will not become a decent guitar player in 3 years?
Answer: An hour a day is good if you’re just beginning. I encourage my new students to do that much on a daily basis and it seems to work fine. You can increase your practice time as your skill and interest in guitar increases. If you have more time available and want to practice more, by all means go ahead, but you should do OK at the current level.

so 4-5 years is enough to be competent?

Answer: What you haven’t heard is about the coaches that work with even the best. Many continue to work with coaches for their entire career.
If you are satisfied with being competent and think you are wasting your money, then quit or find a teacher or coach that will take you farther than playing notes, learning chords, playing scales. Study Theory and composition.

Question: I can switch chords (almost every known chord) with absolute ease, my strumming is excellent. I can play kinda fast solos. It takes me 10 minutes to an hour to learn a song. I can do major scales and pentatonic scales. To cut the story short, I’m good at guitar already.

I’m torn between learning the piano or the drums next. I have a band, Lead guitar/Vocals and all of the other band members know how to play drums. I’m the only one who doesn’t know. For the piano, I like the sound and it was my original plan to learn piano before the guitar. I wanna know if it will be easier for an experienced guitar player.
Haha well thanks but I think the guitar will still be more fun for me. :) I really love playing it. Can’t say the same about what i’m going to be learning. But yeah thanks for the input.

Answer: You will have an advantage over total beginners as you have experience with rhythm and are already developing a sort of musical ear. Let me say this first: congratulations! You learned all of that in ONE year? :D
From a band standpoint, I would probably learn drums but seeing that all your band members already can play drums except you I would probably not ;)
The piano is very versatile. With both piano and guitar you will be able to play not only solos but also accompany people. Singers- clarinet players for example :P . With both piano and guitar the music you will be able to play will range from famous classical pieces (MOZART piano concertos :D ) to rock etc…
It will be easier! I recommend it!

Question: * I had a guitar player tell me once that "Pantera" (Dime Bag) is very technical and hard to play the lead guitar to and is easier to play the "Tool"?

* I do not play the guitar so I can not tell the differences in complexity of the guitar playing.

* "Pantera" or "Tool" which has the most complexity lead guitar playing?

Answer: Dimebag’s lead style was exceptional. He had a very individual approach to harmony and by far, he excels when compared to Adam Jones from Tool, although as previous people have said, Tool have a far more adventurous rhythm section (and probably one of the best drummers ever!)

Dime is a shred head, whereas Adam is far more feel based. Both are great, but to learn Dime’s stuff, you would need to do a lot of foundation work on your chops
