What Should I Learn Breakdance or Guitar?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: so ill start this off by im 12 if i chose break which if i want to be good it will take about 2 or more years and it has more of a Wow factor at like dances and parties… guitar on the other hand takes maybe about 6 months to get decent and it would be easier to get girls with it soo im not sure which to pick so any bboys/guitarist please help me give cons and pros i really need help :/
@averagemike thanks for making me feel stupid… lol
Answer: Well, Average Mike is a bit of a cynic, but he is right in this case. After 6 months of guitar you won’t be a decent guitarist, you’ll still be a beginner. I started playing guitar when I was 7 and am now 44. I’m still learning. I can’t dance at all though, so I’d have no idea how long it takes, but I’d guess 2 years is a big stretch there too for being a "good" dancer. My personal recommendation would be to learn guitar because I’ve been playing it most of my life and love playing and singing. If you are a really good dancer and have good rhythm and moves (you should know that by 12 years old), then I’d pursue that if it’s what you like. If you’re already 12 though and have no idea whether you can dance and you move like a gawky ostrich or something, then I’d avoid pursuing dance. Only you can decide what’s right for you. And don’t worry which will get girls. Any girl you get just because you play guitar or dance who isn’t really interested in you as a person, is probably not worth having.
Oh, one other thing, at 44, even if I had learned to dance, I’d probably not still be break dancing. I still play guitar every day and will until my fingers fall off. Keep that in mind because break dancing will probably only be something you really do for the next 10 – 20 years.

Where to Learn the Guitar in KL, Malaysia ?

A tough learn guitar question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I am 17 and I want to know stuff like the construction of guitars, how to repair faulty switches. stuff like that. Do I need to be a hell of a guitarist to be able to learn those stuff as I’m not much of a good player. Where can I get a teacher that can help me with this and how much does it cost ?
Answer: You don’t even need to know how to play guitar to fix them, but it will help lol
Check collages to see if there any courses, ask local shops to see if they will teach you
There some great books on the internet that will get you started

Should I Take Guitar Lessons..?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: I’ve played for 2 1/2 years now, and lately I feel like I’m not getting as far as I want to at all. I really considered taking lessons, but I kind of fear that the tutor will drown me with super-easy things or just doesn’t understand my style (lots of acoustic-lovers up here). Some stats,
-I don’t know music theory, but I’m taking it my junior year
-I don’t know many scales (I know, I fail right? I just don’t know which I’m playing)
-I barely know chords
-Don’t know how to sweep, I suck at tapping
-In short, my preferred style is like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2SucmKpcl4&feature=related
-For my band, I’m lead guitarist so I guess melodic things help more

Kind of a minor thing but I wanted to learn that above video and play it before I graduate high school ;( My main issue for that is sweeping though.
Oh, in short I just wanted to ask how effective lessons are..

Answer: i was in a position similar to yours, except maybe a little further along (i knew all the basic chords and barre chords, and like 3 jazz chords). i started taking lessons a few months ago, and i’m already MUCH better. i actually stopped weekly lessons, because i figured out what i need to practice and wanted time in between lessons. no matter what style you want to play, lessons will almost always help (unless you find out you actually know more than your teacher…that happened to me when i got a sub :P )

so yeah. go take lessons.

What Guitar Chords Should a Rock Guitarists Learn and How Do You Link Them?

This week’s question is as follows:

Question: note i am a begginer guitarist
Answer: You’ll definitely want to learn all the major and minor chords (chords such as G, A, B, C, D, Em, Am, C#m, Bm, F#m, etc.). Chords such as Amaj7 can come in handy as well, as can chords like E7#9.
