In fact, you should simply go to vanderbilly.com for the mother lode of quality guitar lesson videos. It’s a fantastic website. It allows viewers to watch videos significantly slowed down, and those who post videos are very skilled guitarists and tutors.

Question: i took basic lessons two years ago and then started to teach my self some more but i feel i would improve a lot if i took more lessons. i was wondering if people teach more than just the basics for me to learn. i already know several songs, minor pentatonic scale, pinch harmonics, hammer ons and pull offs, etc.

Answer: Since guitar lessons are rather expensive and it’s frustrating to search through all the YouTube drivel in hopes of finding something useful, I’d recommend an instructional DVD set available through Musician’s Friend. There are two sets — one for acoustic and one for electric. Each contains three DVDs, accompanying books, and contains literally everything you’d learn from years of private instruction. I bought the electric set after having played guitar for more than 20 years and can’t believe how much my playing has improved. And the great thing about DVDs is that you can learn at your own pace and go back and review things as necessary. That’s much better than having a question and having to wait a week for your next lesson to move forward with your playing. Even better, the entire set costs only $40! If you read the reviews, you’ll find I’m not exaggerating about how great the DVDs are. Here are links:

Question: Whats the Best Tip You Can Give to an Intermediate Guitar Player with Good Theory Behind Them?

Answer: Perfect practice makes perfect.
Never practice anything faster than you can play it. Practicing mistakes only reinforces mistakes. Speed and accuracy comes from repetition.
Theory is an important part of the equation but music is physical as well. Like in sports, warm up slowly. The more you practice and play the more endurance you will develop.
The more that you put into it the more you will get out of it.
